The Daily Dow LEXINGTON, Ky. (Apr. 9): As several readers questioned yesterday, what happened to General Electric? Why did it disappear?
For several weeks now, the Beating the Dow standings have remained the same, with only minor position changes occurring in the number 6 through 8 slots as prices fluctuated. Eastman Kodak, however (a Foolish Four stock at the beginning of the year), hasn't been in the group for many weeks but has been hovering close to that number 10 yield slot. Yesterday, Kodak and GE had identical yields, so by virtue of its lower share price, Kodak got included in the current list and GE was replaced. Today they have swapped places again.
This isn't anything to be concerned about if you're worried that you just bought a stock that you shouldn't have. It's very likely that Kodak and GE will go back and forth, kicking each other in and out of that final spot on the high-yield list as their prices move back and forth.
Be sure to keep straight which list it is that you're looking at here in the Fool. The list of Current BTD Stocks you see on the front page of the Dow area is the most recent list. The Foolish Four stocks I track in this portfolio write-up and in Today's Numbers are the ones that were current as of January 2. They may or may not be identical on any given day.
And speaking of Kodak (how's that for the lame segue of the week?), it was the Foolish Four stock in the news today. Kodak announced more than a dozen new products and systems today, and a number of key alliances with leading systems integrators.
From the PR release, here are the highlights among the new product announcements: ---a new 14-inch optical disk media that will store 25 gigabytes of information; ---new prototype software that automatically assesses the quality of images coming from a scanner and tags those not meeting prescribed quality standards; ---the integration of CD recorders into its automated disk libraries, giving users the ability to easily write, store and access data on CDs through a single automated disk library system; and ---a new client/server COLD system that records up to 500,000 pages per hour to magnetic or optical disk storage devices; ---a new low-volume, CD-based check imaging system that expedites storage and retrieval of checks by placing them on compact discs; and ---the next generation of the company's popular PC-based imaging system that now provides desktop electronic access to images stored on CDs or microfilm through its support of multiple jukeboxes with up to 150 compact discs.
Among the new alliances announced today for Kodak, relationships were established with Deloitte & Touche Consulting Group, the SCA Group, Radian Systems, Automated Concepts, INET, and The Image Consulting Group in order to help customers integrate imaging solutions into existing systems.
And finally, Kodak and Rimage Corp have entered into an export partnership agreement where Rimage will become a reseller for some Kodak products throughout Europe, including the Kodak Disc Transporter and PCD600 Writer. Rimage's products are used in the software publishing industry and they combine products with Kodak's in custom configurations.
In more acquisition news for DuPont's Conoco unit, the company has purchased the Wingate fractionation, transportation, and storage facilities in New Mexico from Meridian Oil for an undisclosed sum. Wingate has a capacity of 30,000 barrels per day and includes 200 miles of natural gas liquids pipeline and 5 million gallons of product storage. Products made at the plant include propane, isobutane, normal butane and gasoline.
