(FOOL GLOBAL WIRE)
by Greg Markus (MF Boring)
(ANN ARBOR, Mar 21) -- Among the Boring holdings, three stocks were down, one was unchanged, and only one was up today. But that one gainer was enough to net a few bucks for the Borefolio on a generally down day for the market.
And the winning stock today was ... Prime Medical Services, the *other* one of our Texas-base stone crushers (along with Texas Industries). PMSI rose $ 7/8 on the bid side to set yet another all-time high, on tremendous volume of nearly 700,000 shares.
I presume you'd like to know what great piece of news was responsible for this. Well, I wish I could tell you. There's nothing on the wires, at least not as of 6:30 PM EST. It's true that healthcare-related stocks were one of the few pockets of strength in the market today, but that alone wouldn't account for PMSI's large percentage price increase on such heavy volume. The only inferences I can draw--and they are no more than that--is that either some newsletter just discovered PMSI and recommended to its subscribers or else now that PMSI's share price is reliably above $10, some institutions are getting interested. Either way, PMSI has now yielded nearly a 17% return in two weeks. I'll take it.
Late last night, I posted my review of yesterday's TXI conference call with analysts. Please check in the Texas Industries stock folder for all the scoop. Despite the overall quite positive news from that conference, the stock continues to slip a bit from its recent high, just under $70. Even with the bit of retreat, though, this truly Boring stock has provided nearly a 17% return in lass than two months. Not too shabby.
I had hoped to make a buy recommendation tonight, but sometimes due diligence takes a bit more time than one might wish. We Boring types can sometimes be a bit plodding. The research will be all ready for tomorrow, however. I think you'll be suitably, uh, bored by it.
