Boring Portfolio Report
Tuesday, February 6, 1996

It was a fine day for the market, and a great day for our three Boring stocks, with the Borefolio hitting three for three.

Leading off was Texas Industries. This is getting boring, I know, but TXI was up *again* today. This time, it was for a nifty 1 1/4 points, to close at $60 1/4 (bid) on impressive volume of 135,000 shares. That's nearly equal to TXI's total volume for your typical week! And what was the news driving all this activity? Other than the news that TXI is the Borefolio's leading winner, nada.

Even with the impressive gains of over 10% since we acquired the stock last Monday, TXI is still trading at barely 10X expected EPS for the fiscal year ending this May. This one still has a way to go.

Next comes Kulicke & Soffa. KLIC did its part to help fuel the continuing tech rally, rising 1 1/2 points today to a bid of $24 1/2. Volume was strong, with 1.15 million shares worth of KLIC electrons zipping through the NASDAQ wires. Oh yes: no K&S news today.

And in third place, Green Tree Financial--adding $3/8 to yesterday's closing bid to finish today at $29 (bid). Volume of 446,300 shares was about average. And no news on GNT, either.

In closing, permit me to point out that the Boring Portfolio is lagging the market averages principally because with a history of only seven trading days, the majority of assets are still resting in a mayonnaise jar rather than out there earning their keep. As soon as the requested research material arrives from the companies I've contacted, I plan to add some additional players to the line-up, pronto!

The assets invested in our three little stocks did just fine today. The value of portfolio stock investments yesterday was $16,275. We added a nice round $500 to that value today, which works out to 3.07%. Not too shabby for a day's work, eh?
